Where does the ship dock?
Save the ship berth and passenger gate before leaving the Western Harbour. Mariehamn is compact, but ferry ramps, cruise access and Pommern’s museum entrance are separate movements.
Can I walk into town?
Åland’s seafaring grew from farms, sailing fleets and strategic Baltic geography. Russian rule, demilitarisation, autonomy and Swedish-language life make the islands more than a ferry stop.
Practical information
Museum access is often good, while Pommern gangways, shore paths and older buildings vary. Confirm the actual vessel and route.
What fits the day?
Two hours suits Pommern and the museum. Half a day crosses the peninsula to the Maritime Quarter. A long call can add one wider Åland site without racing several islands.
Safety and return
Keep ferry lanes and marina work clear, use Swedish names respectfully and treat autonomy and demilitarisation as living civic arrangements.
