A family chatting together on an open cruise-ship deck at dusk

Plain-English privacy

Your chats stay local.

Last updated: 14 August 2026. Ahoy There is designed without an internet chat account, advertising profile, analytics service or telemetry service.

What Ahoy There does

Ahoy There exchanges encrypted messages, attachments, group events and optional in-range information directly between nearby devices. There is no Ahoy There internet chat server.

Information on your phone

Your sailor name, remembered groups, room passkeys, local app identity, block and mute choices, recent private-room messages, shared events and settings are stored in the app private storage. Android Keystore protects sensitive identity and event keys.

Nearby permissions

Android requires nearby-device permissions to discover and communicate with other phones. Older Android versions may require Location permission for Wi-Fi Direct discovery. Ahoy There does not use GPS to track your physical location.

Photos and documents

Android system photo and document pickers give the app access only to files you choose. Received files are stored in private app storage until you open them or remove the app data.

Website and feedback

This website uses no analytics, tracking cookies, advertising scripts or remote fonts. Voluntary feedback sent through the separate portal is transmitted to Azure and stored for up to 365 days so it can be investigated. The portal asks for consent before sending; a contact email is optional. The email fallback is processed by the email providers involved.

Questions can be sent to feedback@ahoythere.app or prepared through the feedback page.

Ready before you sail

Take your cruise, chat and port guides offline.

Install Ahoy There on Android before departure so your group, plans, games and owned destination guides are ready when internet access is not.
