Where does the ship dock?
PortMiami is a multi-terminal cruise hub on the waterfront beside downtown Miami. Terminal letters and access roads matter, and assignments can change. Confirm the current terminal with your cruise line before leaving for the port.
Can I walk into town?
Taxis and rideshare use designated terminal areas. Downtown transport includes Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover and the city trolley network, but services and stops should be checked for the day of travel. Walking the port bridge is possible on the north side, yet heat, luggage and terminal distance make it unsuitable for many travellers.
Practical information
Currency is US dollars. English and Spanish are widely heard. Card payment is common and tipping is customary in table-service restaurants and taxis. Miami heat and sudden rain can be demanding; carry water and use sun protection, and request terminal assistance in advance if needed.
What fits the day?
With two hours, stay around Bayside and the downtown waterfront. A half-day can add the Pérez Art Museum area or a short neighbourhood visit. A full day can include Miami Beach or Little Havana, but only with a realistic return plan that allows for traffic, security and terminal access.
Safety and return
Use authorised transport and the designated terminal pickup zone, keep valuables controlled in busy visitor areas and allow for road congestion. Reconfirm the terminal before returning. Follow ship time and the ship's stated all-aboard deadline, leaving a substantial buffer for traffic and port security.

Family port-day note
Keep the family port day realistic
At Miami, choose one main experience, such as Bayside and the downtown waterfront; locate toilets and an easy food or shade stop early, and keep a low-effort fallback close to the arrival point. Buggies, heat, cobbles and tired legs can slow the return more than a map suggests.
