Where does the ship dock?
Chania cruise calls normally use Souda, a working port outside the historic city. The first task is to confirm the ship shuttle or other verified road transfer.
Can I walk into town?
The harbour, old-town lanes, maritime and archaeological museums, market district, Aptera and Akrotiri viewpoints support several distinct day shapes.
Practical information
Heat, road traffic, museum hours and shuttle queues change the plan. Save Souda in Maps and retain a taxi fallback.
What fits the day?
Two hours after transfer suits the harbour. Half a day adds museums and lanes. Aptera or Akrotiri should be the one road anchor, not an extra afterthought.
Safety and return
Historic paving can be slippery and the harbour edge exposed. Do not attempt a long gorge walk on an ordinary cruise call; return to Souda early.

Family port-day note
Keep the family port day realistic
At Chania, choose one main experience, such as Chania Venetian Harbour; locate toilets and an easy food or shade stop early, and keep a low-effort fallback close to the arrival point. Buggies, heat, cobbles and tired legs can slow the return more than a map suggests.
