Where does the ship dock?
Falmouth combines a modern fixed cruise pier with a living protected historic town. Water Square, the courthouse, church, market and Baptist heritage make a coherent close-to-ship route; river, estate, forest and resort-coast trips need transport and firmer cutoffs.
Can I walk into town?
Walk the historic grid or use a licensed local driver. Use a vetted timed operator for Martha Brae, Good Hope, Cockpit Country, Green Grotto, Montego Bay or Ocho Rios, and confirm whether price is per person or vehicle.
Practical information
English is official and Jamaican Creole is widely spoken. Georgian streets also carry histories of enslavement, abolition, sugar wealth, skilled labour and post-emancipation community life that deserve more than decorative architecture.
What fits the day?
Two hours suits the historic centre. Half a day can cover town plus Martha Brae, Good Hope or a nearby beach. Distant waterfalls, resort towns and forest routes are full-day commitments that should not be stacked.
Safety and return
Use current ship and operator instructions, stay with authorised routes in protected forest or caves, and preserve a conservative road margin. Luminous Lagoon is primarily a night experience and rarely fits a daytime cruise call.
