Where does the ship dock?
La Romana is a gateway rather than one walkable attraction cluster. The cruise berth, working port, city, Casa de Campo, Altos de Chavón, Bayahíbe and offshore islands must stay distinct in every plan.
Can I walk into town?
Use registered transport for the city, caves, Casa de Campo or Bayahíbe. Altos access can change and must be confirmed. Saona, Catalina and marine sites require a booked boat whose return protects all-aboard.
Practical information
Spanish and Dominican pesos are standard, with US dollars common in tourism. Roads have a high collision risk, sun and humidity are intense, and June-to-November tropical weather can cancel boats and flood routes.
What fits the day?
Two hours suits the terminal or one city stop. Half a day can cover Cueva de las Maravillas or a confirmed Altos visit. Bayahíbe, Saona, Catalina and Cotubanamá are major excursions rather than add-ons.
