Where does the ship dock?
Naples places a dense city, bay ferries and major archaeology around one central port. The safest rewarding day chooses one: central Naples, Pompeii/Herculaneum, or an island crossing.
Can I walk into town?
Walk to Piazza Municipio or use the metro for the historic centre and museum. For Pompeii, Herculaneum or Capri, verify every connection before leaving.
Practical information
Euros and cards are common, with cash still useful for small purchases. Roads, scooters, cobbles and heat can make progress slower than the map suggests.
What fits the day?
Two hours supports Municipio, Toledo and one church or gallery. Half a day suits the historic centre; Pompeii or Capri needs most of a long call.
Safety and return
Use an early independent return from every excursion. Reaching Napoli Centrale or the ferry pier is not the same as clearing cruise-terminal security.

Family port-day note
Keep the family port day realistic
At Naples, choose one main experience, such as Piazza Municipio and Castel Nuovo; locate toilets and an easy food or shade stop early, and keep a low-effort fallback close to the arrival point. Buggies, heat, cobbles and tired legs can slow the return more than a map suggests.
