Where does the ship dock?
Roatán has two distinct cruise arrivals: Mahogany Bay in Dixon Cove and the Port of Roatán in Coxen Hole. Identify the terminal printed by the ship before leaving security. The island is long and narrow, so a small map distance can still involve slow roads.
Can I walk into town?
Mahogany Bay supports an easy terminal day, while Coxen Hole provides town services. West Bay, West End, Sandy Bay, French Harbour, Punta Gorda and Oak Ridge need licensed transport. Choose one island zone rather than combining distant ends.
Practical information
Spanish and English are widely heard, while Garifuna language and traditions remain important in communities including Punta Gorda. Heat, tropical rain and changing sea conditions affect every route.
What fits the day?
Two hours suits the assigned terminal or nearby Coxen Hole. Half a day supports West Bay and West End or one nature attraction. Punta Gorda and the east end require a disciplined full-day vehicle plan with an early turn-back.
Safety and return
Use licensed transport and responsible reef operators. Never touch coral or stage wildlife contact. Avoid informal roadside pickups, record the fare and vehicle, and return before traffic or weather can consume the ship margin.
