Where does the ship dock?
Split combines a cruise and ferry harbour with a historic centre that begins almost at the waterfront. The great practical advantage is proximity; the trap is assuming every quay or tender lands at the same gate.
Can I walk into town?
Diocletian’s Palace, the Peristyle, cathedral, basements, Riva and Varoš make a rich central circuit. Marjan, Bačvice, Salona and Trogir are distinct additions; choose one according to time and mobility.
Practical information
Stone becomes slippery in rain and hot in strong sun. Marjan routes include steps and exposed paths; current access notices, museum opening and public transport should be checked before committing.
What fits the day?
Two hours is enough for a purposeful Palace loop. Half a day can add a museum, market or lower Marjan viewpoint. A full day can support Trogir or Salona, but not a chain of distant highlights.
Safety and return
Stay out of ferry vehicle lanes, use signed pedestrian routes and licensed transport, and keep the precise quay or tender return saved. A nearby harbour is not necessarily the correct passenger entrance.
