Where does the ship dock?

Funchal rewards a compact city day straight from the ship, but Madeira’s famous viewpoints sit on steep, weather-sensitive roads. Choose either a city circuit or one major island outing before adding extras.

Can I walk into town?

Walk east along the seafront for the centre and old town. Use cable car, bus, taxi or tour for Monte; pre-arrange longer island trips and keep a weather alternative.

Practical information

Madeira uses euros, and most visitor-facing venues take cards. Sun, showers and cloud can occur in different parts of the island at once; carry a light layer and use shoes suited to polished slopes.

What fits the day?

Two hours covers the old town and market. Half a day can add Monte or a museum. Cabo Girão, Câmara de Lobos or farther landscapes require road planning and should not all be stacked together.

Safety and return

Work to ship time and road reality. Leave mountain stops early, keep the driver’s details, and preserve a direct harbour route if cable car or weather conditions change.
