Where does the ship dock?
Lisbon offers a genuine walk-from-the-ship city day, but its hills change the effort quickly. Choose one compact zone first: Alfama and Baixa for a short call, or a transport-backed Belém plan for longer.
Can I walk into town?
Walk west on the riverfront for Baixa, or climb behind the terminal into Alfama. Reach Belém by train, tram, bus or taxi rather than trying to join it to Alfama on foot.
Practical information
Portugal uses euros and cards are common. Cobble grip, heat, tram crowds and pickpocket awareness matter. Public toilets are easiest in museums, markets and larger transport hubs.
What fits the day?
Two hours supports Sé, Alfama and Praça do Comércio. Half a day can add the castle or a museum. Belém needs its own half day; Sintra is a full-day transport commitment with a large buffer.
Safety and return
Work to ship time. Leave hillside queues, Belém or Sintra early enough to absorb a missed service, riverfront traffic and the walk through the correct terminal entrance.
