Where does the ship dock?
Leixões gives a real choice between a relaxed Matosinhos day and a transport-backed Porto visit. Treat those as separate plans: Matosinhos is close and level; Ribeira is farther, hillier and busier.
Can I walk into town?
Use Metro, shuttle or taxi for central Porto. In Matosinhos, walk to the market, seafood streets and beach. In Porto, plan a mostly downhill route and one clear return pickup.
Practical information
Porto and Matosinhos use euros, with cards accepted in most visitor-facing venues. Polished slopes can be slippery, while Atlantic wind affects the waterfront. Check Metro lifts and station routes for mobility needs.
What fits the day?
Two hours suits Matosinhos. Half a day can cover Ribeira, São Bento and one viewpoint. A full day may add Gaia or a river trip, provided the return to Leixões is fixed.
Safety and return
Return to Leixões, not to the city’s Douro riverfront. Allow for bridge traffic, Metro disruption and the correct terminal side before cruise security.
